HONOLULU - The No. 5 University of Hawai'i water polo team (17-4, 2-0 BWC) edged No. 10 UC Davis (16-8, 1-1 BWC) in their second Big West game with a 12-7 victory on Saturday night at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Claire Nixon matched her career-high with four goals, while
Chloe Barr notched her sixth hat trick of the season.
During the first quarter, both the Rainbow Wahine and Aggies struggled to find the back of the net, with Hawai'i connecting on just 1-of-7, while UC Davis converted on just 1-of-6 attempts. The Rainbow Wahine were blanked on their chances at power play, but ended the frame tied at 1-all. Barr and Greta Kohlmoos each scored in the first.
However, in the second frame, Hawai'i rose above its slow start, launching a 3-0 scoring run in the opening four minutes of the quarter, pushing away from the Aggies. halftime advantage.

Maartje Keuning and
Femke Aan each netted scores during that run. UC Davis did not back away as Emily Byrne entered the scoring column with 30 seconds left. However, with just six seconds to the buzzer, Aan registered her second goal of the evening for a 5-2 Hawai'i advantage at the break.
Irene Gonzalez connected for her lone goal of the night in the third, while Nixon caught fire with two scores as the teams finished even in the frame. Nixon did not waste time connecting on her fourth goal of the evening at the 7:15 mark of the fourth, setting a season-high and matching her career-high.
Samantha Malouff added a goal at the 6:16 mark, and Barr looked dominant, connecting on two goals in the waning moments of the quarter to cap off the 12-7 margin for the Rainbow Wahine.
