KAPOLEI, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team placed fifth at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Wednesday at the Kapolei Golf Club. The tournament was shortened to 18 holes after Tuesday's first two rounds were washed out due to rain and ponding on the course.
The Rainbow Wahine carded 294, seven strokes behind team champion FIU (287), who edged out New Mexico State (288) and Nebraska (289). Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto shot 3-under 69 to take medalist honors.
UH was in contention throughout most of the round until reaching holes No. 16-18, where they were a collective 8-over par, which included six bogeys and a double bogey. Still the Rainbow Wahine were able to match their season-low round.
Sahara Washington led Hawai'i with a 1-under 71, her low round of the season. Senior
Kaci Masuda and sophomore
Malia Ebersberger each shot 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 22
ndwhile sophomore
Tyra Tonkham was one stroke back at 75 and a tie for 28
th. Junior
Megan Ratcliffe tied for 36
thwith a 77.
A pair of Rainbow Wahine freshman competed as individuals –
Haruka Shintani and
Nicha Vorrasanpisut, who each carded 77.
The Rainbow Wahine will next travel to the Big Island where they will compete in the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea, Nov. 6-7.
