Honolulu—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team and head coach
Laura Beeman will be putting on its first official event of the 2018-19 season with the Green and White scrimmage this Sunday inside the Stan Sheriff Center at 2:30 p.m. HT.
The Rainbow Wahine began practice in September to prepare for the upcoming season and will be returning a large percentage of the roster from a season ago. Junior guard
Julissa Tago returns as the team's leading scorer averaging just under 10 points a game as a sophomore.
Tago will join a group welcoming back four starters from last year, including senior forward, sharpshooter
Lahni Salanoa, and potential double-double threat junior forward
Makenna Woodfolk.
The two captains for this year's squad are a tandem of senior guards in floor general
Tia Kanoa, and the physical style of
Rachel Odumu. Both are expected to play significant roles as they aim to lead this years' 'Bows back to the NCAA tournament.
The Green and White scrimmage will be the first tune-up as UH will welcome in UH Hilo for an exhibition on Nov. 1, followed by the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6 versus Pepperdine. The matchup with the Waves will be the first time UH has begun a season at home since Beeman became the head coach before the 2012-2013 season.
