Women's Basketball Continues Big West Road Trip at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.  – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (7-7. 0-1 Big West) looks to bounce back from Thursday's loss in the Big West opener, as the two-game conference road swing continues on Saturday at league-leading UC Davis (11-3, 1-0 Big West) in The Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. HT.

The Rainbow Wahine were unable to get into a steady offensive flow Thursday against Cal State Fullerton and faced double-digit deficits four times, battling back from three. The Titans came out with the hot hand, hitting 56 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, and staying busy at the free throw line while making 24-of-28. Senior guard Sarah Toeaina has been steady for the 'Bows at 14.6 PPG, reeling off double-digit performances in six of her last seven games, including 23 against the Titans. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Julissa Tago has come on strong of late, averaging 10.8 PPG and reaching double figures the past three games, while also dishing out a career-high eight assists at CSF. Junior point guard Tia Kanoa has also knocked down double-figures in each of the past two games, averaging 5.9 PPG.

The only conference team to reach double-digit wins thus far, the Aggies are off to their best start since 2010-11 and pace the league in the RPI standings. UCD puts up the scores, surpassing 70 points in each of their last three games and averaging 73.5 PPG on the year. Junior forward Morgan Bertsch is the biggest component, leading the Big West and ranking 35th nationally with 20.1 PPG. She also averages 4.6 boards and has 23 blocks on the year. Senior guard Rachel Nagel chips in 11.9 PPG and 4.1 RPG. With nine players getting over 10 minutes of playing time, the Aggies also distribute the ball well, ranking 13th nationally with 18.9 APG, and five players averaging at least two dimes per outing.

The Rainbow Wahine have a slight lead in the series at 8-6, but are 2-3 at The Pavilion and have dropped the last two meetings with the Aggies.

The Rainbow Wahine return next week for a two-game home stand against UC Irvine and Long Beach State. UH will face UCI on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7:00 p.m. HT at the Stan Sheriff Center, followed by the LBSU game at 5:30 p.m. HT on Saturday, Jan. 13.
