DAVIS, Calif. – The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team (15-11) took third place in the 2017 Big West Conference Tournament after defeating host-team No. 11 UC Davis (16-18), 10-9, on Sunday, April 30 at the Shaal Aquatics Center.
After falling to Long Beach State in the semifinals, the second-seeded Rainbow Wahine found themselves back in the win column as they defeated the fourth-seeded UC Davis in the third-place match. Redshirt junior
Chloe Barr led the team with three goals, while senior goalkeeper
Sarah Logan tallied five saves and three steals in her final match as a Rainbow Wahine.
UC Davis was first to get on the board, taking a one-score lead over Hawai'i at the end of the first period.
The Rainbow Wahine found some offensive rhythm in the second, netting six goals in the period. Rainbow Wahine sophomore

Julia Barton quickly followed to take a 2-1 lead. The Aggies responded to knot the score at two-all, but Hawai'i tacked up two more goals via Barr and sophomore
Irene Gonzalez. UC Davis countered again with two goals, followed by a back-and-forth scoring exchange to close the half. At halftime, the teams were locked in a six-all tie.
UC Davis started the third period with two consecutive goals, giving the Aggies an 8-6 lead. However, the Rainbow Wahine responded with back-to-back goals from redshirt junior
Claire Nixon and senior
Nikki-Marie Bell to knot the score at eight-all going into the final period.
Barr opened the fourth period with her second goal of the afternoon, pushing Hawai'i up by one. The Aggies quickly responded to tie the score again. With the final minutes winding down, Barr netted the final goal of the match to seal the Rainbow Wahine victory, 10-9, as the 'Bows took third place in the Big West Conference Tournament.
