HONOLULU – The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team (14-10, 4-1 BWC) capped off the 20th season of Rainbow Wahine water polo and celebrated Senior Night with a 17-6 win against No. 23 CSU Northridge Matadors (10-19, 0-4 BWC) at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex (DKAC).
Ahead of tonight's match was the annual Alumnae Game, featuring an alumane-vs-alumnae format. The match drew 19 alumnae, including inaugural head coach Shari Smart, and Amy Morrow Bennet, Robin Jones, Karin Umemura, Lindsay Resetnikov, Michele Wong and Andy Nishioka, all from the 1998 squad. During halftime of the match, the alumnae were honored for their contributions to the Wahine water polo program.

Taylor Molde were honored for their time as Rainbow Wahine. After receiving their plaques and leis, the seniors jumped in the pool for the traditional Senior Float.
Sophomore
Irene Gonzalez led the team with four goals on Saturdat night, while six other Rainbow Wahine scoring at least one goal to propel Hawai'i to a dominating 17-6 victory over the CSUN Matadors.
The Rainbow Wahine were quick to start, going up 4-2 in the first period. Gonzalez and sophomore
Femke Aan connected on consecutive goals to give Hawai'i a 2-0 lead to start the period. CSUN responded with back-to-back goals to knot the score at two-all. However, Hawai'i redshirt junior
Claire Nixon found the back of the net twice to give the 'Bows a two-score lead at the end of the first period.
CSUN opened the second period with two straight goals to tie the score at four. However, the Rainbow Wahine went on a three-score run to close out the first half with goals via senior
Nikki-Marie Bell, redshirt junior
Chloe Barr and Aan. The 'Bows held a 7-4 advantage at halftime.
The Rainbow Wahine continued their offensive attack in the third, outscoring CSUN 6-2 in the period. Hawai'i rattled off six consecutive goals, coming from freshman
Maartje Keuning, junior
Erika Pauley, Gonzalez, Barr and Aan. The 'Bows took a 13-6 lead into the fourth period.
The Rainbow Wahine kept pouring it on and capped off the night with another four goals in the fourth period, shutting out the Matadors. Barr, Keuning, Bell and Gonzalez all notched one goal apiece in the period as Hawai'i defeated the Matadors, 17-6.
Next for the 'Bows is the 2017 Big West Tournament at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, Calif. from April 28-30.
