HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (1-7, 0-1 Big West) continue their six-match homestand with a busy week including three matches on consecutive days. The Rainbow Warriors will first take on Elon on Wednesday, March 22 following the women's match also against Elon (6-9, 0-0 CAA). The 'Bows will then battle No. 40 Washington (9-4, 0-0 Pac-12) on Thursday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. and they will finish their week facing former Western Athletic Conference rival, Fresno State (8-9, 0-0 MWC) on Friday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m.
The Rainbow Warriors return to the courts after an 11-day break.
Igor Kolaric leads Hawai'i with a 2-8 overall singles record and a 2-6 mark in dual matches on the No. 2 court.
Felix Albert has played all of UH's duals on the No. 1 court and has a 1-7 dual match record while
Marcel Chan has been playing at No. 3 for majority of the season with a 1-6 record. In doubles, the 'Bows have been searching for winning combinations. Kolaric and partner
Fabian Woehrl were victorious with a 6-4 win against North Carolina State in their last match. UH's No. 1 duo of Albert and Chan were edged out 6-3 and on the No. 3 court,
Ruben Blattner and
Eric Kenneth fell by just one break, 6-4.
Elon's men's tennis team and women's tennis team both came to Honolulu to compete this week from Elon, North Carolina. The Colonial Athletic Association team is led by Felipe Sarrasague who is 10-5 on the No. 1 court in dual matches. Two players have shared duties at No. 2 with Salvador Mijares going 4-3 and Mario Paccini posting a 3-5 record. Mijares has also recorded a 3-4 mark on the No. 3 court as well. In doubles, the Phoenix's No. 3 duo of Mijares and Neal Port lead the team with a 7-2 dual match record.
No. 40 Washington's Amit Batta leads the Huskies with a perfect 10-0 dual match record. He has primarily played at the No. 5 position where he is 7-0 but has also played No. 4 and No.6 as well. The Huskies' No. 105 Mitch Stewart has recorded a 4-2 record on the No. 1 court while Enzo Sommer has also split time in the top sport with a 5-1 record. In doubles, Washington has gone through 15 different pair combinations with the duo of Jake Douglas and Piers Foley tallying the best record with a 3-3 mark all on the No. 2 court.
Fresno State has had some hard luck this season, falling in eight matches by just one point. In their most recent match against fellow Big West school, Cal Poly, the Bulldogs, were able to capture two singles matches vs. ranked players. Fresno State's Euan McIntosh cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Mustangs' No. 85 Ben Donovan on the No. 2 court while Xander Veys defeated No. 100 Corey Pang on the No. 1 court in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. In doubles, the Bulldogs' No. 2 team of Xander Veys and Mantas Bugailiskis earned their lone doubles win against Cal Poly with a 6-1 win over Tan/Enander.
