HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine track and field team served as host to San Jose State this weekend at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex, wrapping up the 2016 home slate with the Rainbow Relays, concluding on Saturday morning.
The Rainbow Wahine earned the dual meet victory over the Spartans, topping SJSU, 97-64.
Highlighting Saturday's track performers, Harbor City, Calif. junior
Montana Martinez not only ran a personal-best time of 11:03.50 in the 3,000m steeplechase, she also locked up a school record by just under three seconds, notching a mark that ranks seventh in the Big West.
In the meantime, St.-Cesaire, Canada senior
Alex Porlier Langlois won the hammer throw at 166-00 (50.61m), discus at 163-8 (49.89m) and the shot put in her first attempt of the season, easily hitting a mark of 50-8.75 (15.46m), throwing more than 2m over the Big West qualification standard.
In the jumps, Veracruz, Mexico senior Tiziana Ruiz-Dominguez won the pole vault with a height of 13-1.5 (4.00m), tying for the top mark among the Big West standings. Ruiz-Dominguez also placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 5-4.75 (1.65m), a personal best and another Big West qualifying mark.
In the hurdles, Langley, Canada senior
Jade Vaughan and 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu sophomore
Sha'tres Ah Nee proved to be at the top of their game in the hurdles, with Vaughan winning the 400m hurdles with a seasonal best of 62.50 seconds. Meanwhile, Ah Nee placed second in the 100m hurdles with a personal best of 16.06 seconds.
The Rainbow Wahine also featured event winners
Karen Bulger in the Javelin 147-0.5 (44.81m),
Alli Cross in the 1,500m (4:48.34),
Sabrina Sterbis in the 5,000m (20:04.55) and
Camille Campos in the 10,000m (40:02.89).
The Rainbow Relays marks the final career home meet for seniors
Robyn Brown (Chino Hills, Calif.),
Charlinda Ioane (Kapolei, O'ahu),
Louise Mulvey (Perth, Australia), Langlois, Ruiz-Dominguez, ,
MaKenzie Stang (San Ramon, Calif.) and Vaughan. Seniors
LeAnna Morrison (Moncks Corner, S.C.) and
Zhane Santiago (Hau`ula, O`ahu) did not compete this weekend.
Next on the slate for the Rainbow Wahine are a pair of California-based meets, as UH travels to the California Heptathlon on April 13-14 in Azusa, Calif., as well as the CSULA Twilight Open on April 14 in Los Angeles.
