Raquel Ek shot a first round 77 to lead the Rainbow Wahine at the PING/ASU Invitational, Friday, at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course.
Ek was the lone UH golfer to break 80 on a day in which only three teams broke par. UH shot a first round 324 and sits in 14
th place in a field that includes nine nationally ranked teams, including top-ranked Alabama (288).
No. 3 UCLA leads the tournament at 7-under 281 followed by No. 17 UNLV and No. 11 Arizona State (287), No. 10 Arizona and Alabama (288), Oregon State (294), No. 29 Texas (295), No. 13 Washington and No. 31 Colorado (298). Fourth-ranked Northwestern is tied for 11
th at 301.
Individually, UCLA's Bronte Law, ranked No. 2 nationally, set a new Karsten Golf Course record with an 8-under 64 while teammate Lilia Vu is second at 4-under 68.
Ek posted three birdies during her round but limped home with a triple bogey on No. 16 and bogey on No. 18. The San Diego, Calif., native is currently tied for 47
th. Junior
Izzy Leung is three strokes back following a first round 80 and is tied for 66
th.
