Game Notes
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team is back at home for its final non-conference tune-up of the season as the Rainbow Wahine host Grand Canyon University on Dc. 29 at 5:30 PM (HT).
Hawai'i is 3-8 this season entering Thursday's game, while Grand Canyon is 7-4 and comes to Hawai'i with a four-game winning streak. The Lopes, however, are just 1-3 on the road this season.
The Rainbow Wahine have cleaned up their offense lately, averaging six fewer turnovers per game—13.3—in their last three games than they averaged through the first eight—19.6. The offensive improvement has yet to impact the 'Bows shooting performance, however, as Hawai'i is shooting 34.9 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from 3-point range, and 64.1 percent from the free throw line, figures that each rank in the bottom three of the Big West Conference.
Junior
Sarah Toeaina leads Hawai'i with 11.6 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds. Senior
Briana Harris averages 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds and sophomore
Olivia Crawford adds 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine.
Grand Canyon's Marina Laramie leads the team with 20.6 points per game, and the Lopes average 8.2 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 34.6 percent from long range.
After Thursday's contest, the Rainbow Wahine will shift their focus to Big West Conference play. Hawai'i opens league play on Jan. 5 at Long Beach State, and will play four of its first five conference games on the road, including games at UC Davis (Jan. 7), Cal Poly (Jan. 19) and UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 21) with a home game against CSU Fullerton on Jan. 12.
