Wahine Basketball Runs Out Of Big Shots In Third OT

Box Score Box Score (PDF)

RENO, Nev. – Despite some clutch shooting from Olivia Crawford and Sarah Toeaina, the Hawai'i women's basketball team dropped a triple-overtime heartbreaker at Nevada, 67-59, on Sunday.

With Hawai'i trailing 45-43, Crawford made a game-tying layup with 19 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. After Hawai'i found itself in a four-point hole in the first overtime, Makenna Woodfolk split a pair of free throws and Toeaina tied the game for the 10th time with a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, forcing the second overtime.

Hawai'i (3-7) again found itself trailing by four in the second extra frame, 55-51, with just 11 seconds left before Crawford hit her first 3-pointer of the day to pull Hawai'i within one. After Nevada hit a pair of free throws on the other end, Crawford connected on another 3-pointer in the final seconds to send the game into a third overtime tied at 57-57.
The Rainbow Wahine ran out of big shots in the third overtime, as Nevada (6-5) ended the game on an 8-0 run to earn the 67-59 win.

While last-second shooting kept the 'Bows in the game, poor shooting the rest of the time proved to be Hawai'i's demise. The Rainbow Wahine shot a season-low 23.0 percent (20-of-87) from the field and 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from 3-point range. On the other end of the floor, the UH defense held Nevada to 27.0 percent shooting and 19.4 percent (6-of-31) from 3.

Crawford led Hawai'i with 12 points and added five rebounds and an assist in the game. Sarah Toeaina added eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds, while Woodfolk finished with seven points and a career-high 14 boards. Briana Harris finished with a career-high 14 rebounds as well, and Adrienne Darden had seven points, two rebounds and a block in 24 minutes in her Rainbow Wahine debut.

Stephanie Schmid led Nevada with a game-high 14 points, and Tiege Zeller added 16 rebounds for the Wolf Pack.

The 'Bows wrap up their road trip at Boise State (9-1) on Dec. 20 at 4:00 p.m. HT. Hawai'i returns home to host Grand Canyon on Dec.29 before opening Big West Conference play at Long Beach State on Jan. 5.
