SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 7 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (3-1, 0-0 Big West), continued day two of the UC Santa Barbara tournament splitting a pair of games. After first falling to No. 2 UCLA, 13-8, the Rainbow Wahine quickly bounced back for an 8-4 victory over No. 20 Wagner.Â
Despite falling behind to the Bruins in the first three quarters, the Rainbow Wahine were able to come back and outscore them 3-1 in the fourth period but it wasn't enough to surge past UCLA. Newcomer
Femke Aan led UH with a hat trick, while
Carla Abellan added a pair of goals.Â
In the second game of the day, UH opened with an explosive 3-0 first quarter advantage over Wagner. In the next two periods to follow, both teams matched goal-for-goal, but the Rainbow Wahine were able to solidify the victory in the fourth, outscoring Wagner 3-2 for an 8-4 win.Â
Irene Gonzalez led the Rainbow Wahine against Wagner with four goals, while Aan added two. Additionally Julie Barton and
Danika Kotylak contributed one apiece.Â
The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the UC Santa Barbara Tournament, Sunday morning, as they take on eighth-ranked San Jose State at 8:00 a.m. PT and CSU Bakersfield at 12:10 p.m. PT.Â
