NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team fell to CSUN, 63-60 Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference game at The Matadome. UH drops to a 10-9, 3-3 BWC record, while the Matadors advance 3-16, 1-4 with their first conference win.Â
The Rainbow Wahine gained an early advantage, leading 30-23 by halftime and maintained that momentum throughout the majority of the contest. However, the Matadors were able to pull ahead in the second half, outscoring UH 40-30.Â
After the Rainbow Wahine took their largest lead of the night with a 14-point advantage in the third, the Matadors began to chip away, eventually pulling ahead by one-point, 49-48 after a layup by CSUN freshman Channon Fluker (31 points, 11 rebounds).Â
Soon after, UH answered back with four-straight points to reclaim the lead, but couldn't stop Fluker, who scored six-straight points to put CSUN back ahead, 55-52 with 4:16 left in the game. From then, the Rainbow Wahine were unable to pull past the Matadors, despite a trey by
Briana Harris at the buzzer.Â
UH struggled to find the net throughout the contest, shooting 22-63 (34.9 percent) from the field, while the Matadors went 24-of-54 (44.4 percent). The Rainbow Wahine, despite a 45-32 rebounding advantage, committed 11 turnovers, giving away 14 points to CSUN.Â
Megan Huff led the Rainbow Wahine with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, while
Kalei Adolpho also tied for a team-high 12 points and also contributed eight rebounds.Â
The Rainbow Wahine return home next to host CS Fullerton, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. HT, and UC Irvine, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. HT at the Stan Sheriff Center.Â
