VIDEO: Natasha Kai Post GameWAIPAHU, O'ahu – University of Hawai'i women's soccer and its alumnae treated fans to a well-played, hard-fought 2-2 draw on Sunday night which ended with the 'Bows winning on an impromptu penalty kick shootout.
The 'Bows took a 2-0 lead into halftime but the alumnae rallied in the second half to tie the match. Shortly before the final horn blew, a decision was made to hold a penalty kick shootout to decide the winner.
The match proceeded to end in a draw and in the shootout,
Storm Kenui,
Sonest Furtado, and
Lauren Takai all converted on their spot kicks to give UH the win. Ambree Ako, who also scored on a penalty kick in the 53
rd minute to cut the lead to 2-1, made the almunae's lone kick.
TJ Reyno and
Tiana Fujimoto each scored in the first half to give Hawai'i its lead. Reyno scored just three minutes into the game with Fujimoto adding to the lead on a brilliant volley off a base line service from Furtado.
Freshman
Alexis Mata, inserted in goal for the 'Bows in the second half, made a handful of sensational saves, two point blank from all-time great and former professional player Natasha Kai.
The 'Bows return to collegiate action on Thursday with their Big West Conference opener against UC Santa Barabara.
