Lidia Battaglia scored her first career goal and the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team rebounded from a winless road trip to blank BYU-Hawai'i 2-0 on Thursday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Battaglia netted her goal in the 81
st minute to all but seal the win for the 'Bows who improve to 3-6-1 heading into Big West Conference play. The senior centerback volleyed in a TJ Reyno corner kick and the 'Bows closed shop the rest of the way.
Hawai'i opened the scoring in the 13
th minute.
Storm Kenui's corner kick bounced around the penalty area before
Dani Crawford followed up a rebound off the post and scored what proved to be the only goal UH needed.
The Seasiders (0-3-1) seemingly tied up the game when Kate Gurney bent a free kick around the inside of the UH wall to score past
Monk Berger. The original foul, however, was called as an indirect kick and the goal was disallowed having not touched another player on the field.
The second half began with the 'Bows seeing the lion's share of the possession. UH kept up the pressure until Battaglia's goal capped the evening.
Both Berger and BYUH goalkeeper Kelsey East posted three saves on the night.
UH next hosts its annual alumnae game this Sunday, Sept. 27 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. Kick off is set for 5:00 p.m.
