HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i will be represented at this year's World University Games with five current or former student-athletes competing for their respective countries. Also known as the Universiade, the World University Games is staged every two years this year's event will be held in Gwangju, South Korea, July 3-14.
The Rainbow Wahine track and field team will have three athletes competing for three different countries – current thrower
Alex Porlier Langlois (Canada) along with former discus thrower TeRina Keenan (New Zealand) and triple jumper Madara Apine (Latvia).
Taylor Molde, who completed her sophomore season with the Rainbow Wahine water polo team will represent Canada while incoming transfer Eimi Koga will don the Red, White, and Blue for Team USA in women's golf.
Porlier Langlois recently completed her junior season with the Rainbow Wahine and became the first UH shot putter to qualify for the NCAA Championships, where she placed 19
th. The St. Cesaire, Quebec native completed a record-breaking year in which she set school shot put records during the indoor and outdoor seasons and captured the gold medal at the Big West Championships and bronze medal at the indoor Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
Keenen competed for UH from 2009-12 and became just the fourth Rainbow Wahine to qualify for four NCAA Regionals. She also qualified for the NCAA Championships during her senior season and placed ninth to earn second-team All-America honors. Apine was a three-year letterwinner for UH from 2010-12 and qualified for three NCAA Regionals in the triple jump. During her career, she captured five medals at Western Athletic Conference Championships including indoor and outdoor golds during her senior year.
Molde, a sophomore from Weyburn, Saskatchewan, helped lead the Rainbow Wahine water polo team to the NCAA Championships this past season. In two seasons at UH, she has 17 career goals.
Koga is a recent transfer from the University of Washington, where she posted six career Top 10 finishes in two seasons with the Huskies. A graduate of Moanalua High School in Honolulu, Koga tied for 38
th at the 2015 NCAA Championships and finished her sophomore season with a 73.19 stroke average.
