PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team (18-10) fell to Princeton (31-4), Saturday morning at the Avery Aquatic Center in the NCAA Consolation bracket. UH will take on UC San Diego for seventh-place, Sunday at 12:00 p.m. PT.

The Rainbow Wahine recovered from a two-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie it 6-6 with the Tigers, but with just four seconds remaining, Jessie Holechek scored the game-winner for Princeton from five-meters out.

Sophomore Chloe Barr led the Rainbow Wahine with two goals, while Zoe Respondek, Claire Nixon, Gabi Mantellato Dias, and Paula Chillida Esforzado each added one. Meanwhile, Princeton's goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson led the Tigers with 10 saves in the cage.

In the first quarter, the Rainbow Wahine found the net off of the first power-play advantage of the morning after Respondek clutched the rebound off of Paula Chillida Esforzado's first attempt and scored. However, the Tigers immediately responded on the next possession, as Ashley Hatcher pulled off a steal followed up with a goal. In the final three minutes of play,
Morgan Hallock gave Princeton the lead off of the 6-on-5, but Nixon skipped one in from six-meters out, tying it 2-2 to wrap up the first quarter.

The Tigers scored two-straight goals to open the second quarter and footed a 4-2 lead over UH. After regrouping with a full-timeout, the Rainbow Wahine pulled off a huge play to inch back 4-3, with Gabi Mantellato Dias scoring from the center assisted by Chillida Esforzado.

Midway through the third quarter, Barr converted a penalty shot to tie it 4-4 for the Rainbow Wahine, but Chelsea Johnson answered back for the Tigers with a power-play goal, ending the period 5-4. After Pippa Temple extended Princeton's lead 6-4 to open the fourth, UH remarkably recovered with two-straight goals from Chillida Esforzado and Barr to tie it 6-6 before Holecheck followed up with Princeton's game-winner.

UH opens the final day of the NCAA Tournament tomorrow afternoon at Noon PT, followed by the fifth-place match featuring Princeton vs. UC Irvine. The third-place game will be at 3:30 p.m. PT followed by the championship match at 5:30 p.m. PT.
