After the final out, the Rainbow Warriors took on a special ceremony, sending off eight seniors.
The Titans got on the board early, as Jerrod Bravo led off the second inning with a double to right field. He came home A.J. Kennedy's single to center field. CSF added another on the play through a strange turn of events, when
Kaeo Aliviado's throw hit Timmy Richards as he was sliding into third, allowing Richards to cross the plate for the 2-0 lead.
The 'Bows responded in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on a
Jonathan Weeks leadoff walk, crossing the plate on an
Alan Baldwin RBI single fired through the middle infield. Aliviado followed with a double off the right field wall for his 30th RBI of the year, scoring Baldwin from first and knotting the score.
The Titans went on top again in the fifth, with Taylor Bryant reaching on an error, and scoring on a second error in the frame for the 3-2 advantage. As the Titans pushed starter
Jarrett Arakawa near the century pitch mark for the first time this season, as Kennedy scored an insurance run in the sixth on Richards' sacrifice bunt.
In the seventh, CSF capped off the scoring as Tyler Stieb logged a triple and went on to score on a wild pitch from
Kyle Von Ruden.
Making his 49th career start—tying him for ninth in the UH record book with 'Bows legend Derek Tatsuno—Arakawa (3-4) was charged with the loss, going a season-high 98 pitches over six (6.0) innings, allowing seven (7) hits and two (2) earned runs, collecting a season-best five (5) strikeouts with no walks issued.
CSF starter Connor Seabold (3-3) picked up the win, also going six frames, Â giving three (3) hits and two (2) runs, walking one (1) and striking out nine (9). Tyler Peitzmeier entered in the ninth and registered his 15th save.
Aliviado went out in style during his final home contest in 'Bows uniform, drawing cheers on a final diving catch in the top of the ninth, and he met a roar from the crowd when he singled in the bottom half. On the night, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Baldwin was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
After the game, the eight seniors—Aliviado, Arakawa,
Eric Gleese,
Andrew Jones,
Juliene Jones,
Steven Pollakov,
Jordan Richartz and
Stephen Ventimilia—were recognized for their career efforts and adorned with hundreds of leis, while five of the group were conferred their degrees by Vice Chancellor Ron Cambra.
The 'Bows finish at .500 in Big West play with a 12-12 record. The final Hawai'i series is set for next week in Tucson, Arizona with matchups against Arizona and Abilene Christian.
