Box Score | Box Score (HTML)

HONOLULU—One big inning for No. 7 UC Santa Barbara (31-10, 8-4 Big West) made a world of difference on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium, as the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors (15-26, 6-9 Big West) fell on a shutout to wrap the series with the Gauchos, 5-0.

After a quick Jarrett Arakawa shutdown in the opening frame, the Gauchos went to work in the second inning, converting three hits for a Cameron Newell run via Paddy O'Brien's RBI single to right field.

Arakawa settled things down again in the third, but the Gauchos fired off three consecutive singles to open the fourth, setting the table for a perfectly placed Clay Fisher rope that edged the first base line, bringing a pair across for UCSB on the double. O'Brien made it three runs, coming in from third on a wild pitch and Luke Swenson provided an RBI single up the middle to push UCSB to a 5-0 advantage and end the day for Arakawa.

Entering in relief, Andrew Jones stopped the Gauchos' run, inducing a double play, going on to carry the 'Bows scoreless into the eighth. Kyle Von Ruden stepped in with one out in a jam and secured his own double play, finishing up on the mound for UH.

The Rainbow Warriors had multiple runners in scoring position, including two in the ninth, but were unable to capitalize, dropping the shutout loss for the program's first series loss to UC Santa Barbara.

Arakawa (2-3) takes the loss, throwing 3.1 innings with 5 earned runs on nine (9) hits, striking out two. Jones threw four (4.0) innings, allowing three (3) hits, striking out one (1) and issuing a walk. Von Ruden went 1.2 frames and allowed no hits.

For UCSB, starter Shane Bieber (6-3) went the distance, throwing the complete game shutout, allowing seven (7) hits and striking out five (5).
Stepping in for an out-of-action Marcus Doi in left field, Matt LoCoco paced the 'Bows at the plate, going 2-for-3 on the day.

The Rainbow Warriors will take to the road in southern California for the next two weeks, poised for back-to-back road series with Long Beach State (22-17, 8-7 Big West) and UC Riverside (13-28, 2-10 Big West).
