SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team outlasted Princeton, 7-6, Sunday morning at the Aztec Aquaplex, concluding San Diego State's Aztec Invitational 2-0. The Rainbow Wahine advance to a 10-5, 1-1 Big West Conference record.

Chloe Barr each netted two goals for the Rainbow Wahine to combine for four of the team's seven points. Meanwhile, Jessie Holechek led Princeton to a late surge after sinking in two of the Tigers' three goals in the final quarter with 2:15 left on the clock, tying it 6-6. However, UH capped it once again in the final minute of play, as Barr scored her second goal of the morning with just 49 seconds remaining to end it 7-6.
The Rainbow Wahine opened the match strong against the Tigers, with Lopes da Silva,
Megan Ottoboni and
Zoe Respondek working for a 3-1 lead with one goal each to end the first quarter. However, the Tigers shut out UH in the second, cutting the Rainbow Wahine's lead down to just one point, 3-2.
Following the halftime break,
Emily Carr immediately converted a 6-on-5 advantage within the first minute of play, igniting a 3-1 run for the Rainbow Wahine, who went into the final quarter with a commanding 6-3 lead. Despite three goals in a row by the Tigers to follow, UH was able to hold off for the win in another last minute thriller.
UH returns home March 20 to host former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation-rival USC at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
