MALIBU, Calif. – The pace of Saturday's (Feb. 28) game three was a far cry from the first two games of the series, as the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors (5-7) baseball team dropped its second straight game to Pepperdine (6-5), 2-0, in a pitcher's duel at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Pepperdine's A.J. Puckett and UH's LJ Brewster battled it out head-to-head on the mound, allowing only a combined eight (8) hits in Saturday's third game of the series. Across the first two games, these teams combined for 47 hits and 40 runs.

Saturday's non-conference tilt remained scoreless into the fourth with just a single hit allowed by Brewster before the Waves made the first notch on the scoreboard. Pepperdine designated hitter Chris Fornaci sparked the Waves with a two-out double in the fourth, coming home on Manny Jefferson's RBI single for the 1-0 advantage on the unearned run.

After Waves' second baseman Hutton Moyer reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth and stole second, Pepperdine made it consecutive scoring frames, Moyer crossed the plate on a Brad Anderson hot shot up the middle to go up 2-0.

Brewster settled back in, holding the line for the 'Bows for two more frames before yielding to Andrew Jones in the ninth. Taking the loss, Brewster (2-1) went a career-long eight (8.0) innings, recording a personal-best eight (8) strikeouts with his pitch count just shy of the century mark, while allowing one (1) earned run, five (5) hits and two (2) walks.

JJ Kitaoka, Eric Ramirez and Kaeo Aliviado each logged base hits, with Aliviado also reaching base on balls.

For the Waves, Puckett (2-1) went the distance for the win, throwing a full nine (9.0) innings with 10 strikeouts, giving three (3) hits and one (1) walk through 120 pitches.

With the loss, the 'Bows fall to 1-2 in the series and 5-7 on the year. The series wraps on Sunday (March 1) in Malibu, with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. PT/11:00 a.m. HT at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
