HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (9-8, 0-0 Big West) launched three home runs but it was not enough as No. 18/19 California (14-1, 0-0 PAC-12) defeated the Rainbow Wahine, 12-4 in five innings.

Cal batted around and jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first. UH retired the first two batters. But on the third batter, Rachel Lack made a spectacular backhanded stop, but on the throw deflected off the first baseman's glove allowing the batter to be safe. Cal went on to tally eight runs on seven hits with two walks and a beaned batter.

Hawai'i got two runs back in the bottom of the frame on a two-run home run by Kayla Wartner that just snuck over the rightfield fence inside the foul pole. It was her fifth homer of the season. UH went on to load the bases with two outs, but Cal starter Katie Sutherland-Finch got the last out on a ground out to short.

The 'Bows posted another run in the bottom of the third on Heather Morales' first career home run. She drilled it over the left-centerfield fence. Hawai'i trailed 8-3 after three complete innings.

Cal loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth, but scored just one run on an RBI-groundout by Kobie Pettis to score Britt Vonk from third.

Wartner then struck again, launching her second home run of the game over the right-centerfield fence hitting the batting house in the back of the scoreboard. It was her 30th career home run and it was her sixth of the season.

Cal put the game away in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on two throwing errors to score three unearned runs in the frame to go up, 12-4.

The game would end with the eight-run rule in effect. Cal's Sutherland-Finch earned the win raising her record to 5-1. She threw 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and six strike outs. Stephanie Trzcinski came in with runners at first and second and one out. She struck out the last two batters.

Kanani Aina Cabrales took the loss, dropping her record to 4-5 on the year. She did not get out of the first inning, allowing eight runs on five hits with two walks. Brittany Hitchcock came in with two outs in the top of the first and threw the last four-and-a-third innings. She allowed four runs on seven hits with three walks and three strike outs.
