The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball squad takes to the road for the first time in the 2015 campaign, opening a seven-game road swing with a four-game non-conference set at Pepperdine's Eddy D. Field Stadium. The 'Bows will meet the Waves on Thursday, Feb. 26 (2:00 p.m. PT), continuing through the weekend with games on Friday, Feb. 27 (2:00 p.m. PT), Saturday, Feb. 28 (1:00 p.m. PT) and closing out Sunday, March 1 (1:00 p.m. PT)
Hawai'i (4-5) meets Pepperdine (4-4) for the 15th time overall, with UH holding an 10-4 advantage in the series. The Waves earned the series sweep of Butler last weekend in Malibu, and met 16th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday afternoon, falling in a 6-4 loss after holding a tie into the seventh. The Rainbow Warriors collected their first series win of the year, closing the five-game set versus Hofstra on 8-2 and 9-3 doubleheader victories last Saturday.
Aiding the 'Bows to the 3-2 series win, the pitching staff recorded a 3.35 ERA in the five-set against Hofstra, with
LJ Brewster (RHP, Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif.),
Tyler Brashears (RHP, Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.) and
Kyle Von Ruden (RHP, Jr., Sacramento, Calif.) each logging victories on the week. However, it was senior center fielder
Kaeo Aliviado who raised eyebrows as the series wound to a close. The Ewa Beach product became the first 'Bows hitter to homer in three consecutive contests since Jeff Van Doornum in 2010, hitting .409 on the series with a team-high eight (8) RBI. Joining him in bringing the bats were first baseman
Eric Ramirez and left fielder/catcher
Alan Baldwin, each bringing in four runs and batting .438 and .400, respectively.
After taking on the waves, the 'Bows will head southeast to Texas, meeting Nebraska, Baylor and Houston across consecutive days during the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park, March 6-8.
