Biography

2015 (Junior): Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 14th round (418th overall pick) of the 2015 MLB Draft...was the first-ever Hawai’i player to receive first team All-Big West honors since joining the conference...Proved to be the top starter in the Hawai’i rotation, earning an 8-5 record as the Saturday starter for the ‘Bows, tying for the top spot for victories among Big West pitchers (53rd NCAA)…His 1.86 ERA ranked second among Big West pitchers and 28th in the NCAA…Brashears made 15 appearances—all starts—with 101.2 innings of work, striking out 68 batters while issuing on 19 walks…Brashears combined on two (2) shutouts on the year...Held opposing batters to .239 hitting…Against Big West foes, Brashears earned victory in five of his eight conference outings…He completed eight (8.0) innings against three opponents, UC Davis (4/3), Cal State Northridge (4/18) and Long Beach State (5/2)…Brashears also recorded a career-best nine (9) strikeouts in the contest at UCD…He held opponents to one run or less in nine (9) games, and held opponents to no earned runs in four games.

Prior To UH:  Played two seasons at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, California under Coach Sommer McCartney… In his first season with the Gauchos, he was named first team All-Orange Empire Conference, logging an 8-3 record and 2.28 ERA as a starter, striking out 71 versus 28 walks in 86.2 innings, recording four (4) complete games and one (1) shutout…In his rookie season, opponents batted just .189…Splitting time between starter and reliever in his sophomore campaign, Brashears had a 2-2 record and 4.19 ERA, with 29 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.

Prep: A 2012 graduate of El Toro High School in Lake Forest, Calif., where he was a three-year varsity letterman under Coach Mike Gonzales…Aided the Bulls to three consecutive South Coast League (SCL) Championships…As a junior, Brashears notched an 11-2 record, .077 ERA and 88 strikeouts, earning SCL Co-MVP honors and also Cal-Hi Sports All-California Team, in addition to first team All-Orange County, All-California and first team Louisville Slugger High School All-America.
