IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 7 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team finished sixth at the UC Irvine Invitational, Sunday afternoon at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. UH split another pair of matches, after edging out No. 6 Arizona State, 6-5, the Rainbow Wahine dropped the fifth-place match to host No. 5 UC Irvine, 3-2.
In the morning's match, the Rainbow Wahine rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Sun Devils 2-1 in the final stretch for a 6-5 upset. After a silent first period, ASU dished out three goals to top UH's one to take the lead going into halftime. However, the Rainbow Wahine turned the tables in the third quarter to tie it 4-4 before their final surge.

Emily Carr each led the Rainbow Wahine with two goals apiece, while ASU's Petra Pardi scored two for the Sun Devils.
Tournament host UC Irvine opened the fifth-place match with an early 1-0 advantage over UH. The Rainbow Wahine matched the Anteaters 2-2 in the second quarter to try and make a comeback, but after a scoreless second half, UCI held off UH in a defensive stalemate for the win.
Paula Chillida Esforzado and Barr combined for the Rainbow Wahine's two goals.
Next, the Rainbow Wahine will take on Cal State Northridge in their home-opener Mar. 7 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
