Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Nev.—The University of Hawai'i softball team completed the four-day Wilson/DeMarini Desert Classic by powering past Seattle, 8-0 and Portland State 11-0 in a pair of five-inning shutouts. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 7-4 on the season and went 4-2 in the Desert Classic.

Kayla Wartner jump started the rally with a home run.
Keiki Carlos followed with a single and Leisha Li''ili'i drew a walk to put runners at first and second.
Heather Morales then drove in Carlos from second with a double to left. After a pop-up to the catchers,
Sarina Jaramillo cleared the bases with a single to rightfield to give UH the early, 5-0 lead.
Rachel Lack launched her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the third to extend UH's lead to 5-0.
UH then put the game away in the bottom of the fifth for the mercy rule win. After a fly out to left, Li'ili'i got on board with a hit to left. Morales then hit a grounder to third, but on the fielder's choice to second the second baseman was charged with an error which left runners on first and second. After a pop-out to third, Jaramillo tallied her third RBI of the game driving in pinch-runner
Chenoa Au with a single to center. Then, after a walk to
Kristina Akiona, Mata reached on an error on the second baseman which allowed Morales to score.
Lindsey Willmon then laced a single up the middle to end the game with pinch runner
Kiani Wong crossing the plate for the eight-run mercy rule win.
Hitchcock improved her record to 3-2 firing five complete innings. She scattered five hits with one walk.
Seattle's Alyssa Reuble threw 4.2 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits with three walks and a strike out.

Stephanie Lynn Craig Softball Complex - Field 1Box Score (html) Hawai'i got off to another quick start against Portland State, batting around the order and posting five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Willmon and Wartner got things going with back-to-back doubles to score the first run. Carlos hit into a fielder's choice to second which resulted in a run-down that caught Wartner for the first out. But Li'ili'I kept things rolling with a single to right to drive in Carlos from second. Morales later drew a walk and Lack got a hit to left to load the bases.
Sarina Jaramillo then hit a grounder to short which allowed Li'ili'I to score but a fielding error on the shortstop also allowed Morales to scross the plate. Akiona was then plunked and Mata hit into a fielder's choice that allowed let Lack score from third to give UH a 5-0 lead.
In the second inning, UH got back-to-back doubles again but this time from Wartner and Carlos. Li'ili'i then launched her first home run of the season over the fence in right-centerfield. It marked her 39
th homer of her career, which moves her into sole possession of No. 4 on UH's career-home run list breaking the tie with former UH-great Stacey Porter.
In the third inning, UH scored three more runs on two more home runs. Mata blasted her first career home run as a Rainbow Wahine. It was a solo shot to leftfield. Two-batters later, Wartner went yard for the fourth time in the tournament for a two-run bomb that gave the 'Bows an 11-0 lead after three complete innings. For Wartner, it marked her 28th home run of her career.
Kanani 'Aina Cabrales (3-2) tossed her third shutout of the season. She spaced just two singles in the game and retired the last seven straight batters in a row. She threw five innings, with no walks and four strike outs.
PSU's Kristen Crawford took the loss, dropping her record to 3-2 on the year. She allowed seven runs on six hits with a walk in one-plus innings of work. Meagan Hendrix threw the next 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and a strike out, while Karyn Wright closed the game, tossing the final 1.2 innings allowing just one hit with a strike out.
Wartner had a solid six games in the Desert Classic, leading Hawai'i with a .550 average and going 11-for-20 at the plate. She recorded team-highs of eight runs, four doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI for UH. Eight of her 11 hits were for extra bases which led her slugging percentage for the week to be 1.350.
Hawai'i returns to O'ahu to host four straight tournaments, starting with the Bank of Hawaii Invitational from Feb. 20-22. No. 15 Washington, UCF and UTEP will all be making their way to Honolulu for the three-game tourney.
