STANFORD, Calif. – Facing a pair of well-ranked teams, the No. 8 University of Hawaii women's water polo team suffered its first setback of the year before coming back to win their second game on the opening day of Stanford Invitational at Avery Pool. After falling to No. 2 UCLA, 12-4, in the morning session, the Rainbow Wahine came back strong in their second match against No. 13 Indiana University and beat them 10-8, in the afternoon session.  
The Rainbow Wahine started out strong against the Bruins in the first quarter with goals by both junior 
Paula Chillida Esforzado and senior 
Emily Carr. Unfortunately, UCLA pulled ahead in the second quarter and ended the half with a score of 6-3, before eventually finishing the game with a score of 12-4. 
In the second match, UH came out with vengeance and attained a lead of 5-4 against the Hoosiers at the half. 
Paula Chillida Esforzado scored a team-high of five goals for the Rainbow Wahine and sophomore 
Chloe Barr contributed with three goals. Sophomore 
Sarah Logan played strict defense in the cage with a game-high of six saves. 
UH returns to tournament action on Sunday when it wraps up pool play against No. 4 University of California at 9:10 a.m. PT. The Rainbow Wahine will then play in their last match later in the day depending on their outcome Sunday morning.
