Men's Tennis Starts Busy Week On The Road

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (2-1. 0-0 Big West) embarks on its first roadtrip of the season this week. The Rainbow Warriors will travel to the Pacific Northwest for their next two matches against Seattle (1-3, 0-0 WAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and No. 63 Washington (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12) on Thursday, Jan. 29. Then the 'Bows will travel down to California to face off against No. 33 San Diego (0-2, WCC) on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Rainbow Warriors are looking to extend their winning streak to three after sweeping Pacific in two dual matches this past week. UH edged out the Tigers 4-3 on both days. Against Pacific, Kai Wehnelt led UH, winning one of his singles and both doubles matches with partner Marcel Chan. Hawai`i's Felix Albert also picked up a victory against No. 33 Boise State's Lewis Roskilly 7-6 (4), 7-5 to give UH their lone point. Albert is leading the team in singles victories with a 2-1 record.

Seattle is led by senior Ryan Newman and junior Ian Clare who both won their singles and doubles matches to lift the Redhawks to their only win thus far over Eastern Washington (Jan. 11). Seattle have struggled in their losses thus far to No. 44 Oregon, Portland and Wisconsin.

Washington is currently ranked 63rd in the country and are 3-0 in 2015. Most recently, this past Sunday, the Huskies defeated Wisconsin, 4-0. Washington swept the Badgers for the doubles point, then won the first three singles matches to capture the match on a short day's work. The Huskies are led by freshman Jake Douglas who is 3-0 in singles matches, recently beating Wisconsin's Lamar Remy. 

San Diego is currently 33rd in the nation. The Toreros are led by 53rd ranked, Uros Petronijevic who beat Texas A&M's 29th ranked Harrison Adams in the ITA Kickoff tournament that was held in College Station, Texas. San Diego is coming off two tough losses, falling to both No. 45 LSU and No. 10 Texas A&M in the ITA Kickoff Tournament. Two other Toreros are ranked in the ITA with Filip Vittek coming in at No. 70 and Jeremy Efferding being ranked No. 96.
