HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team won its exhibition match, 10-8 over the Alumnae team, Saturday afternoon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. Among the Alumnae roster was Eko Lapp (2001),
Mady West (2014), Maggie Albers (2013), and Brandy Clarke (2010), led by the program's first-ever head-coach Shari Smart.
Eko Lapp scored the first goal of the day for the Alumnae, but the Rainbow Wahine were quick to answer back and followed scoring seven unanswered goals. Within the final minutes of the second quarter, the Alumnae netted one goal, going halftime trailing 7-2.
In the third quarter, the Alumnae went on a five-point scoring run to come back from behind and tie it 7-7 with only 15-seconds remaining on the clock. However, senior
Zoe Respondek answered for the Rainbow Wahine with back-to-back goals for a 9-7 lead in the fourth. Eko Lapp pulled off one more goal to cut UH's lead down 9-8, but sophomore
Chloe Barr had the last word, cementing the Rainbow Wahine's victory, 10-8.
The Rainbow Wahine open season-play Jan. 29 on the road against Santa Clara, followed by another match-up against Cal State East Bay Jan. 30, and the two-day Stanford Invitational (Jan. 31-Feb. 1)
