The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior tennis team rallied for a 4-3 win over Pacific on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i evened their dual match record at 1-1 while Pacific fell to 0-3 on the season.
In doubles, the UH duo of Chas Okamoto and Felix Albert earned UH's first win by downing Pacific's Sem Verbeek and Alex Hamilton 6-4. Later, Hawai'i's Kai Wehnelt and Marcel Chan edged out Giannini and Brand 7-6 (3), to take the doubles point.Freshman
Joakim Pinola earned the first singles win for the Warriors, defeating the Tigers' Marion Brand in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Alex Hamilton got Pacific's first point beating Carter Lam in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Wehnelt captured the Warriors third point defeating Pacific's Sam Verbeek, 7-5, 6-3. But the Tigers countered back when Jose Chamba and Ashwin Sharma both won in straight sets at the three and five positions, respectively. With the score tied at 3-3 and everything on the line, UH's top player Nils Schuhmaan came through in the clutch and rallied to beat Miguel Diaz 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to give the Warriors their first dual match win of the season.
The Warriors retake the courts on Sunday, January 25 as they take on Pacific for the secon straight day. The match will begin at 12:00 pm. Men's Tennis Results
