Men's Tennis Falls To No. 33 Boise State In Dual Match Opener

KAPALUA, Maui -- The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team was defeated by No. 33 Boise State, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Kapalua Tennis Garden in Maui.

In doubles, Hawaii's Chas Okamoto and Felix Albert were the only pair to win defeating Boise State's Brian Foley and Abe Hewko, 7-5. The Broncos captured the first point of the day with two tightly contested matches. Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton holding off Nils Schuhmann and Carter Lam, 6-4 while Lewis Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro downed Kai Wehnelt and Marcel Chan, 6-3.

The Rainbow Warriors fought back in singles, but were only able to nab one victory. Hawaii's Felix Albert earned UH's only point of the match with a close 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over Lewis Roskilly. UH's Chas Okamoto went to three sets against Toby Mitchell. Boise State's Mitchell won the first set easily, 6-1, but Okamoto battled back to win the second set 6-2. The third set was hard fought, but Okamoto could not pull off with the win, falling in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5).

The Rainbow Warriors will now face Pacific twice, on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 at the UH Tennis Complex.
