WAIPAHU, O`ahu – Defending national champion and top-ranked UCLA overwhelmed the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine soccer team, 6-0, before a record-breaking crowd Friday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

A total of 4,366 fans witnessed the match, breaking the former mark of 3,175 set in the 2005 finale. What they saw was a Bruin squad that looked every part the best team in the country. UCLA (4-0-1) got on the board less than eight minutes in, before scoring five of its six goals by the break.

It was the largest margin of defeat at home for a UH squad as the Rainbow Wahine faced the No. 1 team in the nation for the first time in program history. UH also lost to the Bruins by an identical 6-0 score in Los Angeles in the last meeting in 2007.

Despite the loss, UH did muster five shots against a Bruin squad that entered the match having given up just six shots through its first four matches. The Rainbow Wahine out-shot the Bruins 4-2 in the second half, after a 12-1 disadvantage in the first half. UH's best opportunity came on a Sonest Furtado rocket that went high in the 23rd minute.

Five different players scored for the Bruins, who were led by senior midfielder Sarah Killion. Killion finished with a goal and two assists in the rout. UCLA's lone score in the second half came on a UH own goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Young finished with four saves for UH.

Washington State and Pepperdine played to a scoreless draw in the first match of the day.

The Rainbow Wahine will next face Washington State on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. That match will be preceded by UCLA and Pepperdine at 2:30 pm.
