Kalei Greeley had a match-high 16 kills,
Sarah Mendoza posted 18 digs and the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team rallied from two sets down but fell to Japanese professional team Toyota Auto Body in exhibition action on Wednesday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 27-25, 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10.
Rika Kawashima was the high hitter for the Queenseis, posting 15 kills while adding five digs and a pair of blocks. Kaori Nakamura boasted a match-high 21 digs.
The 'Bows fell in a two-set hole despite excellent performances in sets one and two. With little margin for error, UH fell behind again in set three but used an 8-2 run midway through the set to gain control.
Keani Passi (7 kills, 6 digs) kills twice tied the set then a pair of blocks from
Olivia Magill (11 kills, 4 blocks) lifted the 'Bows to a 15-12 lead. Toyota kept the set close but Hawai'i pulled away late.
UH won set two in similar fashion. The 'Bows went on a 5-1 run midway through to pull ahead and set the stage for a deciding fifth set.
Ginger Long's block and kill highlighted the run as Hawai'i took a 20-15 lead. The 'Bows led by five points late before blocks by Aya and Akari Takeuchi cut the lead to 22-19.
Megan Huff (5 kills, 2 blocks) came through with a big kill to stem the tide and lift UH to the win.
The 'Bows could not carry the momentum into set five however. Aya Takeuchi's kill put the Queenseis ahead 5-2 and they paced to the win.
The 'Bows resume collegiate play this weekend when they host Northern Arizona on Friday and Saturday. First serve for both matches is set for 7:00 p.m. Hawai'i will also host its annual alumnae match on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
