HONOLULU – Scott Squier tossed his third complete game in his final start of the season to guide the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team to a 5-1 Big West Conference win over UC Riverside on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Squier (5-5) allowed one run and scattered seven hits while tying his season high of nine strikeouts. Kaeo Aliviado had two hits and one RBI for the 'Bows who improved to 21-30 overall and 5-17 in conference with their first Big West home win of the season.

Jacob Smigelski (8-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs on eight hits in six and one-third innings. Joe Chavez and Devyn Bolasky both had a pair of hits to lead the Highlanders (25-27, 11-11 Big West).

The 'Bows got off to a good start with a run each in the first and second inning. Stephen Ventimilia (1 H, 2 R) led off the inning with a base hit then later scored on the first of three Smigelski wild pitches.

UH got its second run in similar fashion, this time it was Austin Wobrock (1 H, 1 R) who led off the inning with a single and scored on a wild pitch.

UCR finally got on the board with a run in the sixth inning. David Andriese drew a lead-off walk from Squier before Drake Zarate (1 H, 1 R) tripled to score Andriese and cut the lead to 2-1.

The 'Bows responded with a big three-run seventh inning. Tyler Young (1 H, 1 R) singled to lead off the inning then later capitalized on a Alex Rubanowitz throwing error at shortstop to round third and score. An RBI-hit by Aliviado and a sac fly from Adam Hurley scored another two runs and the 'Bows took a 5-1 lead through seven innings.

Hawai'i and UC Riverside continue their series on Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
