HONOLULU --The No. 9 University of Hawaii women's water polo team plays its final regular-season matches of the season when it hosts UC Davis on Saturday, April 12 (6:00 p.m.) and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, April 13 (noon) at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center. Admission is free.
Amy Carlson and
Danielle Lewis will be honored following Saturday night's match against UC Davis as part of Senior Night festivities. Lewis is second on the team in goals scored (40), while Carlson has averaged better than eight saves a match as the team's starting goalkeeper.
The Rainbow Wahine (15-9, 2-2 BWC) will play its fifth and final conference match on Saturday when it takes on No. 16 UC Davis (11-15, 0-4 BWC). UH earned a share of the Big West regular season title last year, but with two league losses the team is on the outside looking in with both Cal State Northridge (2-0) and UC Irvine (2-0) ahead of them.
UH will then wrap up the regular season with a non-conference match versus Cal State Monterey Bay. It will be just the second all-time meeting between the programs with UH winning 16-2 in the first meeting in 2009.
Following the regular-season, UH will head to Long Beach State, site of the 2014 Big West Tournament, April 25-27. The top two teams receive a first-round bye in the six-team affair.
UH has won two of three matches on its last road trip with sophomore
Paula Chillida Esforzado scoring a total of six goals. The sophomore leads the team with 47 goals and 35 assists.
