HONOLULU – Marc Flores crushed a grand slam and Adam Hurley added a solo homerun, but the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team gave up a season high in runs with a 15-8 loss to UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.

The 'Bows fall to 14-16 overall and 2-4 in the Big West Conference after suffering a series sweep by UCI (21-10, 5-1 BWC). Kaeo Aliviado had a career-high four hits with one run and Flores finished with two hits, two runs, and four RBI. Hurley and Jordan Richartz both had two hits, one run, and one RBI.

Flores' grand slam, UH's first since 2010, gave new life to Hawai'i who had trailed by seven runs. Aliviado's single loaded up the bases and Flores belted his third home run of the season, a dinger over the right field wall. The excitement would be short-lived, however, as the Anteaters put up three runs just one-half inning later to push the lead to 10-4.

Jarrett Arakawa (2-1) suffered his first loss, pitching to just four batters before exiting from what appeared to be discomfort in his throwing arm. Evan Brock (5-2) earned the win, allowing four runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings of work.

UCI used a five-run fourth inning to take control of the game. Justin Castro's double scored the first two runs of the inning with Connor Spencer driving home another pair of UCI runs. Castro batted 3-5 with two runs and three RBI and Spencer added two hits, one run, and four RBI.

The 'Bows trailed by five runs before RBI hits by Richartz and Trevor Podratz (1 H, 2 RBI) cut the UCI lead to 10-8 in the eighth inning. The momentum would again be quelled one-half inning later. Kris Paulino's solo homerun kickstarted a five-run ninth inning to close the door on Hawai'i.

UH next welcomes Cal Poly to town for a three-game Big West series starting Friday, Apr. 11 at Les Murakami Stadium.
