Women’s Water Polo Stunned By CSUN In Double OT

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The No. 9 University of Hawaii women's water polo suffered one of its most agonizing losses of the season, dropping a 9-8 double-overtime decision to No. 7 Cal State Northridge Friday afternoon at Matador Pool.

The Rainbow Wahine led for nearly all of regulation and held an 8-5 lead with 7:21 left in the fourth quarter. The Matadors, however, scored three unanswered goals, including a Melissa Doll score with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.  Kelcie Ferreira's goal with just 41 seconds left in the second overtime period proved to be the game-winner.

UH (13-9) dropped its fourth straight match with the loss and fell to 1-2 in Big West play. CSUN, meanwhile, improved to 21-6 and 2-0 in conference with its 13th win in the last 14 matches.

Chloe Barr, Mirella Coutinho and Caity Lopes da Silva each scored a pair of goals for the Rainbow Wahine, while Amy Carlson notched 13 saves in goal. Doll led the Matadors with three goals.

The Rainbow Wahine continue it three-match road trip when it faces UC Santa Barbara in a Big West match on Saturday, April 5 at 12:00 p.m. PDT/9:00 a.m. HT.
