Top-Seeded 'Bows Ready For Big West Championship

Senior Jonathan Brooklyn enters the tournament undefeated in conference singles play
Tournament Bracket

HONOLULU – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team will take aim at its first Big West Conference Championship title, traveling to Indian Wells, Calif. this week for the Big West Men's Tennis Championship. The event will be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and run from Apr. 24-26.

The 'Bows won the regular season title with a 4-0 league record, earning them the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the tournament. Hawai'i opens the six-team championship on Friday, Apr. 25 at 3:00 p.m. PT (12:00 a.m. HT) against the winner of fourth-seeded UC Davis and fifth-seeded UC Irvine.

UH (7-11) clinched the title on the last day of the regular season with a come-from-behind win at UC Irvine. That win, coupled with UC Santa Barbara's loss to Cal Poly the next day, left the 'Bows as the league's lone undefeated team.

Jonathan Brooklyn enters the championship as UH's top player. He went 9-6 in singles play this season with a perfect 4-0 conference mark, all on the No. 1 court. Brooklyn also teamed up with Carter Lam for a successful Big West doubles run. The tandem went 3-1 in league play and 5-3 overall.

The 'Bows will be trying to win their first tournament title since 2010.
