Softball Returns Home to Host Cal Poly; "Power in Pink" on Saturday

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (19-19, 4-5 Big West) returns home to host a three-game Big West Conference series against Cal Poly (22-16, 4-5 Big West). The two teams will square off with a single game on Friday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the series-ending doubleheader on Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. Following Friday's game, the team will conduct an autograph session and Saturday is "Power in Pink" day at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in recognition of breast cancer awareness. The team will be wearing special Under Armour pink jerseys in honor of the occasion. 
 
The Rainbow Wahine are looking to snap its four-game losing streak against the Mustangs this weekend. Hawai'i continues to be led by junior first baseman Leisha Li'ili'I who is hitting .381 (40-for-105) with a team-high 11 home runs, 22 walks and 32 RBI. Sophomore rightfielder/pitcher Keiki Carlos is second on the team hitting .339 with a team-high 41 hits in 121 at bats. She also leads UH with 29 runs scored and nine doubles. Senior second baseman Jazmine Zamora is batting an even .300 overall (33-for-110) with two doubles, a triple and three home runs. In conference action, Sharla Kliebenstein is hitting .333 (7-for-21) with two doubles and a home run.
 
In the pitching circle, sophomore southpaw Loie Kesterson continues to see the bulk of the pitching duties. She is 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference with a 4.19 ERA in 125.1 innings pitched. Freshman Heather Morales is 9-7 with a 5.16 ERA and three shut outs. She has fired 95.0 innings thus far.
 
Cal Poly comes to Honolulu with a 22-16 record overall and an identical 4-5 mark in conference games. The Mustangs snapped their four-game skid with a win in the series finale against UC Davis. Five Mustangs are hitting above the .300 mark, led by Emily Ceccacci's .378 batting average. She has racked up a team-high 48 hits and 25 runs scored. Sierra Hyland is a dual threat on offense and in the pitching circle. At the plate, she is hitting a solid .364 (36-for-99) with seven doubles, four home runs and a team-high 26 RBI. As a pitcher, Hyland has been dominant, with a 19-7 overall record and a 1.53 ERA and eight shut outs. She has 208 strike outs to 70 walks. Cal Poly's only other pitcher of record is Chloe Wurst who is 3-8 overall with a 4.65 ERA in 78.1 innings pitched.

Promotions: Bud Light is the series sponsor and will provide great prizes for the winners of the popular "Ballpark Bingo."  Also, t-shirts will be thrown into the stands during the fourth inning. There will be an autograph session immediately following Friday night's game for fans where 100 fans will receive a special free team photo in their Power in Pink jerseys. Saturday is "Power in Pink" day at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in recognition of breast cancer awareness.Also on Saturday, the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club will be selling various softball memorabilia as well as Power in Pink T-shirts.
Series history: Hawai'i holds a 5-2 record over Cal Poly. Last season, UH swept the three-game conference series in San Luis Obispo, 4-0, 3-1, and 2-1. It will be just the second time in history that Cal Poly will play in Honolulu. The Mustangs played in the 1998 Paradise Classic.
