Box ScoreVIDEO: Senior Night CeremonyHONOLULU – The No. 9 University of Hawai`I Rainbow Wahine water polo team wrapped up its Big West schedule with a 5-4 win over No. 16 UC Davis Saturday night at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Caity Lopes da Silva scored the game-winning goal with 1:17 left in regulation to lift the Rainbow Wahine to the win.
The Rainbow Wahine improved to 16-9 overall and 3-2 in the Big West with their third win in the last four matches. The Aggies, meanwhile, dropped to 12-16 overall and finished 0-5 in Big West play.
Danielle Lewis and
Amy Carlson were honored following the conclusion of the match as part of Senior Night festivities and both contributed heavily in the win. Lewis scored a goal—her 41
st of the season—while Carlson finished with nine saves.
UH never trailed in the match but were challenged throughout by the Aggies in a defensive battle. The match was tied 3-3 at the half and UH took a 4-3 lead into the final quarter on a
Chloe Barr score—the only goal by both teams in the third period.
Hannah Curran tied the game with 3:02 remaining with her second goal of the match. After Lopes da Silva scored the go-ahead goal, UCD had two chances to tie the game, including the final possession of the match, but were unable to break through the Rainbow Wahine defense.
The Rainbow Wahine will play one final match of the regular season when they host Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday at noon.
