HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team will play its Big West Conference opener this week, hosting UC Irvine for three games at Les Murakami Stadium. The 'Bows and Anteaters will play Friday, Apr. 4 (6:35 p.m.), Saturday, Apr. 5 (6:35 p.m.), and Sunday (1:05 p.m.).
The 'Bows opened the league season last weekend with two wins at then-No.10 UC Santa Barbara, ending a streak of 10 straight series wins by the Gauchos. UH enters the weekend series with the Anteaters at 14-13 overall and 2-1 in the Big West.
Matt Cooper continues to have a stellar season on the mound for the 'Bows. His complete-game nine-strikeout performance in the series opener against UCSB earned him his second Big West Pitcher of the Week honor. He currently ranks third in the Big West in ERA (1.29) and strikeouts (46) and is fourth in innings pitched (50.0) with two complete games on the season.
Marc Flores opened the Big West season on a tear, batting .571 and posting a league-best eight hits and six RBI, and ranks second with a .929 slugging percentage.
Marcus Doi made an impressive return to the starting lineup after a three-week absence. He went 3-4 with a run and an RBI in the opener and batted .385 for the series.
