Women’s Water Polo Falls To No. 9 LMU

LOS ANGELES – The No. 13 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team dropped a 9-6 decision to No. 9 Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon at the Burns Center. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 11-5 on the year and saw their five-match win streak come to a close.

The Rainbow Wahine held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but the Lions (10-6) scored three unanswered goals in the second to take a 5-3 lead into the break. It was a lead they would not relinquish as LMU built its lead to 9-4 in the fourth quarter before UH scored a pair of late goals.

Zoe Respondek and Emily Carr each scored a pair of goals for UH, while Amy Carlson tallied eight saves in the cage.

UH now returns to the islands to host five straight games at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex, beginning with its 2014 season home opener against Long Beach State on March 21at 6:00 p.m.
