CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 13 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team were utterly dominant in a pair of wins at the Claremont Convergence Friday at Haldeman Pool. The Rainbow Wahine (9-4) out-scored its two opponents by a combined 46-10 with a 21-6 win over Whittier and a 25-4 win over Redlands.
The 25 goals against Redlands tied a 15-year old school record for offensive output. The Rainbow Wahine also scored 25 goals against Simon Fraser and Cal Sate Bakersfield in 1999. The 21-goal win was the third-largest margin of victory in school history. Nine different players scored multiple goals led by
Danika Kotylak's career-high five scores.
UH also passed the 20-goal threshold in its first match of the day versus Whittier. A trio of players recorded hat tricks, highlighted by
Danielle Lewis's five goals.
Emily Carr added four and Kotylak had three.
UH will conclude the Claremont Convergence on Saturday with matches versus Occidental and No. 11 UC San Diego.
