Softball Hosts Jack in the Box Spring Fling Tournament

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (9-7, 0-0 Big West) continues its month-long homestand as they host the Jack in the Box Spring Fling Tournament, March 5-9 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. California (7-7, 0-0 Pac-12), James Madison (10-8, 0-0 CAA) and former conference rival Pacific (6-8, 0-0 WCC) will all be coming to Honolulu for the five-day tournament.
 
The Rainbow Wahine come into the Spring Fling tourney with a 9-7 record and are led by sophomore third baseman Alyssa Villalpando's .410 batting average (16-for-39). Junior first baseman Leisha Li'ili'i is second on the squad with a .386 batting average (17-for-44) and leads UH with seven home runs and 17 RBI while sophomore rightfielder/pitcher Keiki Carlos is hitting .360 with a team-high 18 hits and five doubles.
 
In the pitching circle, freshman Heather Morales continues to see the bulk of the workload. She is 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 58.0 innings pitched. Loie Kesterson looks to make her return to the circle with a 3-2 record and 32 innings pitched while Carlos has also made her return to the pitching staff. She has appeared in four games and is 0-1 on the season with 13 innings under her belt.

Jack in the Box is the tournament sponsor and will provide free burger coupons to the winners of the popular "Ballpark Bingo."  Also, Jack in the Box t-shirts will be thrown into the stands during the fourth inning of each UH game.
Coaches: Hawai'i head coach Bob Coolen is in his 23rd season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine program. He is 852-475-1 at UH and 924-568-1 in 27 years as a head coach. California's Diane Ninemire is in her 27th season and has a 1,162-540 career record all with the Golden Bears. Mickey Dean is in his second season as the head coach at James Madison with a 52-25 record with the Dukes. Dean's career record is 293-140 in eight seasons. Brian Kolze is in his 22nd season at Pacific and has a 648-541-1 career record.
Series records: California leads UH, 20-9, last season, the Golden Bears held off UH, 1-0 on March 14, 2013. Pacific holds a slight 33-31 edge over Hawai'i. Last season, in UH's first back in the Big West, the 'Bows swept the Tigers in Stockton to clinch the BWC title, 3-1, 5-2, 9-3.
