Men’s Volleyball Hosts Pivotal MPSF Series Against UC Irvine

Match Notes

HONOLULU – One week removed from an improbable two-match sweep of No. 3 UCLA, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team continues its homestand by hosting No. 8 UC Irvine, Friday, March 7 and Sunday, March 9 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Match times are 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The eighth-ranked Rainbow Warriors (11-6, 9-5 MPSF) avenged an earlier loss to the Bruins during the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational with a four-set win last Friday and a come-from-behind five-set victory on Saturday. The sweep marked the first over UCLA since 2006 and kept UH in the thick of the MPSF standings. The Warriors, who are tied with UC Santa Barbara for sixth place, have already matched their win total (11) from a year ago.

UC Irvine (11-8, 8-7) won its only match last week, defeating UC Santa Barbara in four sets. The defending national champion Anteaters started the season 2-4, which included a three-match losing streak, but have recently won four of their last five and hold down the eighth spot in the MPSF standings.

Warriors To Wear Custom Camouflage Uniforms
The Rainbow Warriors will wear custom camouflage jerseys at Sunday's match in honor of the military. Active, DOD civilians, reservists, and retired members of the military receive 50% off select adult tickets (maximum of eight) to all 2014 UH men's volleyball matches. A valid military identification card is required when purchasing tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office. Tickets are in special sections and supplies are limited. Other restrictions may apply.
