Box Score

HONOLULU – Narrowly edged in doubles but dominated in singles, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior tennis team was shut down by Portland 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The doubles point came down to the one court with Nils Schuhmann and David Schuster falling to Portland's Alex Ferraro and Ratan Gill. The UH pair hung around throughout the match but Portland came through in the end with an 8-5 win. Danilo Casanova and Chas Okamoto had fallen at third doubles before Carter Lam and Jonathan Brooklyn drew the 'Bows even with their win on the two court.

The Pilots (8-4) won the first three singles finishes to clinch the match, but all three were tightly contested and went to a third set. Brooklyn at the one and Okamoto at the three both rallied after dropping the first set but ended up on the losing end.

Schuster and Lam earned the singles wins for Hawai'i after the match had been decided. Schuster swept Alex Wallace at the five and Carter Lam did the same against Kent Andreasen on the six court.

UH (3-10) remains in Portland but will have two days off before taking on Idaho this Sunday, Mar. 30. First serve between the 'Bows and Vandals is set for 10:00 a.m. PT (7:00 a.m. HT).
