STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team ended two weeks of frustration with a straight set victory over Pacific, Monday at the Alex G. Spanos Center in a match that lasted only 79 minutes. Set scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
With the win, the Rainbow Warriors (12-10, 10-9 MPSF) snapped a four-match losing streak and extended their win streak over the Tigers to 34 straight. The teams conclude their all-time series on Tuesday with a rematch at 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT). Pacific will drop its program following the season.
Leading the way for Hawai'i was junior opposite
Brook Sedore, who finished with a match-high 15 kills, hitting at a .483 clip with just one error in 29 attempts. As a team, the Warriors hit .363, including .400 and .429, respectively, in the first two sets.
Following two straight sub-par performances against Stanford, middle blocker
Taylor Averill added nine kills on .538 hitting and four blocks while fellow middle
Nick West had eight kills with just one error in 11 swings, hitting .636.
For the match, the Warriors sided-out at 79 percent and committed only nine service errors for the match, the second lowest total of the season. Five of those errors were committed by setter
Joby Ramos, who finished with 39 assists and 10 digs along with one of the team's three service aces.
Tommy Carmody led the Tigers (2-18, 1-16) with 10 kills. UOP saw its losing streak extend to nine straight.
