The Dukes posted one run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Madyson Moran that drove in Caitlin Sandy from third. JMU loaded the bases, with one out. But Jazmine Zamora fielded a grounder at second and cut down the first runner attempting to score and a batter later, the 'Bows got out of the inning with a ground out to short.

The Dukes loaded the bases again in the top of the third inning with one out on a single, a walk and another single. But the 'Bows turned a 5-to-2-to-3 ground out double play to deny the JMU rally.

But in the top of the fourth, James Madison racked up five hits and broke through to score four runs for a 5-0 lead. Hannah Hayes, Erica File, and Caitlin Sandy all had RBI hits and Jailyn Ford lifted a sacrifice fly to take the five run lead.

The Cougars were held off the scoreboard for six innings, but in the top of the seventh, BYU plated three runs to down Hawai'i, 3-1 in the final game of the night.

BYU had runners on in every inning and threatened to score several times. In the top of the second, UH got the first two outs, but then a walk and two singles loaded the bases. UH pitcher Loie Kesterson then settled down to get a swinging strike out to end the inning.

Hawai`i dodged another bullet in the top of the third. The Cougars got a single and a double with one out, but then UH got a bunt back to the Kesterson who checked third and fired to first for the second out. The 'Bows then got the final out on a groundout to second.

In the bottom of the third, with one out, UH got a single from Lindsey Willmon.  Then a fielding error off a grounder to short by Zamora put runners at first and second. But BYU got out of the jam with a pop up to short and a groundout to second to stymie the 'Bows.

Hawai`i scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth. Ulu Matagiese led the inning off with a single through the leftside of the infield. Sharla Kliebenstein tried to execute a sacrifice bunt, but it was fielded by the third baseman who fired to second to cut down the lead runner. Pinch hitter Kristina Akiona then drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Kaile Nakao then came through with a double to the left-centerfield fence that scored Kliebenstein from second. After a foul pop-up to first, Willmon drilled an opposite field shot to the right-centerfield gap, but the BYU rightfielder, Gordy Bravo, made a leaping grab on the run at the fence to thwart the UH rally.

In the top of the fifth, the Cougars rallied again. Bravo led the inning off with a double to the right-centerfield gap. St. Clair then laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Bravo to third. Katie Manuma then hit a grounder to Nakao at third who dove to tag out Bravo who had strayed away from the bag. Nakao then ended the inning making a play on a hot shot to third to throw the runner out at first to end the inning.

But in the top of the seventh, BYU broke through, posting three runs on two outs to leapfrog the 'Bows, 3-1. With one out, Bravo started the Cougar rally with a single to left. St. Clair then hit a single to right-centerfield and advanced to second on a throw to third. Manuma then hit a double over the rightfielder to the fence to drive in both Bravo and Duckworth. On the play a good relay from Carlos-to-Zamora-to-Nakao at third cut down Manuma who tried to extend her double to a triple. Ashley Thompson then followed with a solo home run over the centerfield fence to give BYU an insurance run and a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

McKenna Bull, the BYU reliever, earned the win tossing the final three innings. Upon entering the game, she got a 4-to-6-to-3 ground out double play to start her appearance. She then proceeded to strike out the final seven UH batters of the game.

Loie Kesterson suffered the loss, dropping her record to 6-4. She threw a complete game, allowing three runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strike outs.
