SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team posted 11 personal bests and seven athletes placed in the Top 20 of their respective events on the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships Friday at Dempsey Indoor.
Senior multi-event athlete
Kaleigh Morrison achieved five PRs in the pentathlon including her total of 3,617 points which earned her ninth place among the 22 competitors. The Tigard, Ore., native also posted career-bests in four of the five disciplines – 60-meter hurdles (8.99s), high jump (5-6/1.68m), shot put (34-2/10.41m), and 800-meters (2:35.57).
Last year, Morrison finished 14
th in the pentathlon with 3,300 points.
Sophomore
Kayla Kirk also competed in the pentathlon and finished 19
th, however, she set new personal bests in the shot put (26-9.75/8.17m) and 800-meters (2:30.92).
Sophomore
Daphne Cobbs also set a pair of PRs in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles (9.48s) and 200-meters (27.43s).
Samantha Esperanza and
Amber Kozaki each eclipsed PRs in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85s) and pole vault (12-6/3.81m), respectively. Kozaki's jump was good for 17
th place while teammate Roby Morioka also cleared the same height and took 19
th place. Esperanza placed 15
th in the 60-hurdles.
Among UH's other Top 20 finishers included
Joanna Franke-Kuhn, who placed 13
th in the weight throw (51-11/15.82m) and
Cecilia Durocher, who was 20
th in the pole vault (12-0/3.66m)
The meet concludes on Saturday.
