HONOLULU – Marc Flores had three hits and scored the game-tying run in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to stop the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior baseball team from losing 2-1 in 11 innings to Pepperdine on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The 'Bows (5-5) got an excellent outing from Scott Squier who did not factor in the decision. Squier worked seven complete innings allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Gordon Cardenas (0-2) was tagged with the loss in four innings of work. Eric Karch (2-0) tossed two and one-third scoreless innings for the win in relief of starter Corey Miller.

Pepperdine's fifth inning sacrifice fly was the only run of the game before the 'Bows came up for their final at bats in the ninth inning. Aaron Brown (2 H, 1 R) had led off the inning with a double, then later scored from third base on Aaron Barnett's popup. Barnett finished the game for Pepperdine with two hits and two RBI.

Jordan Ritchartz struck out to open the UH ninth, but consecutive hits by Flores and Juliene Jones (2 H) set the stage for Trevor Podratz's game-tying, pinch-hit single. Flores raced home from second as the 'Bows sent the game into extra innings at one run apiece.

Pepperdine (7-2) regained the lead two innings later when Barnett's RBI-hit scored Bryan Langlois (2 H, 1 R) for what proved to be the game winner. The 'Bows had another chance to tie in the bottom of the 11th when Flores singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch with just one out but, after a pop up and a Podratz walk, Jerry Kleman struck out to end the game.

The 'Bows and Waves play game three of their series on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
